Painter Tape Birch Trees

Art, Tutorials

What?

We made birch trees using watercolour and painter tape. We started off by taping the piece of paper down to our tables. We then tore pieces of Painters Tape into long pointed strips. By sticking the tape on our paper we designed trees. We then painted the picture with watercolour. After the paint dried we peeled the tape off and drew little black lines on the trees. The class really loved peeling off the tape and revealing their pictures.

Why?

I chose this activity because it challenged the class to think outside of their comfort zone. The primary medium for this project is tape. The students were asked to draw their picture by sticking on pieces of tape. Children often find it challenging to draw trees, but this activity makes it easier for them.
