Mario Stop Motion
2016-2017, Student Work
What?
The student’s in my grade 1 class each made a stop motion video about Super Mario. I then put the videos together to depicted Mario running through a level. Mario collects coins, gets power ups, and jumps on enemies. He eventually works his way through the level by jumping on the bowser flag thing and going in a castle.
Why?
We made these videos as a part of a writing unit. The students have been working on using the writing process to improve their writing. In this unit the students were asked to draw a Mario level, and then describe how Mario would defeat it. They then self and peer edited their draft and rewrote it. They then got to animate their writing useing a stop motion app for iPads. We also did the video because I think students write better if they have a clear purpose they are engaged in.
How?
- Writing Templates: what they wrote the draft and final copies on
- Mario Templates: what they used to build their level
- iPads with stop motion app
